Mini-AGV (Automatic Guided Vehicle) systems are an alternative to mini-load AS/RS (Automated Storage and Retrieval) systems and fixed position systems such as carousels. They allow for flexible deployment and expansion, and you can add capacity based on your experience. Because carriers can be designed with flat, physically large shelves, these systems can store materials that could not otherwise be stored in other mini-AS/RS systems. For example, flat sheets of plastic might not fit into a carousel or a mini-load storage location. The speed of the system is quite fast with a single delivery point, and using a dual-delivery station, idle time can be all but eliminated for the operator. Because all material is delivered to one locating, accuracy can be further increased by adding a scanner at the delivery window. Also, for operations with specialized packing equipment (bagging, tagging, sealing, weighing), this can provide many advantages. If idle time is experienced, additional AGV’s can be added to eliminate the wait.
